Employability of a skilled workforce has been a challenge in the present times, especially due to the growing skill gaps and limited exposure to the latest industry-oriented tools and equipment. With most students relying on ITIs to learn job-ready skills, there was a need to address this gap to improve employment rates and demand from industries for skilled workforce was on the rise. Hence, the Government of Karnataka signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Tata Technologies for a period of 10 years to upgrade and modernize 150 government-owned ITIs across Karnataka.
This project aimed to technically upgrade the existing state ITIs and make them future-ready technology hubs. As part of the MOA, we collaborated with 20 global industry leaders to implement this project by upgrading the overall infrastructure with advanced tools such as CREO, MASTERCAM, and ANSYS, 3D printers, AR/VR-based painting, welding, and more. Tata Technologies has developed 6 Long Term Courses and 23 Short Term Courses approved by the Directorate General of Training (DGT) and the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), respectively, for upskilling, cross-skilling, and reskilling of professionals.
Tata Technologies has also conducted ITI staff training through Train the Trainer program and assigned a total of 300 Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) having two SMEs to each ITI for technical assistance.
As of the academic year 2022-23, all ITIs have been modernized with 9,407 students enrolled in 6 different trades, while 4,670 students are pursuing various short-term courses.
This project will improve the employability of the youth who complete the courses and help the industry embrace 4.0 technologies in Karnataka.
These ITIs will cater to advanced skill requirements of students as well as prospective employers and act as technology hubs, including skill centers for the large industry as well as Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
