Wiper Analysis
The Wiper System Module is intended to automate the routine tasks associated with generating legislative view zones, initial wipe patterns and validation of the wiped area against the legislative requirements . It is intended for use in both car & truck design and will be quite useful to the body designer during concept design i.e. pre styling feasibility and production design i.e. post detail design validation phases. Scope of the module as mentioned above spans both cars & trucks with left & right-hand drives in conceptual as well as detail design phase.

During the conceptual design stage, the application will allow the designer to decide wiper type and optimize spindle locations, spindle orientation, arm & blade lengths, angle between arm & blade, parking positions and sweep angles which give the required wiped area based upon the user inputs like, vehicle type, Seating Reference Point (SgRP) or Accelerator Heel Reference Point (AHRP), vehicle width, seat track travel and seat back angle. It will generate CAD output in the form of windshield surface marked with legislative view zones & wipe patterns. The construction geometry required to generate the eyellipse may also be output. Pass/fail text report which includes user input configuration, system generated numerical output & graphs can be made available to the user in a postscript format. During the production design phase, module will be used to validate the wiper system configuration against the legislative requirements & manufacturing rules once the detail design has been completed.
Optimization exercise for wiper sweep will primarily be done through user interaction by modifying the numerical inputs. The user will identify ranges of optimization search for the spindle orientation, and the system will automatically determine the best orientation taking into account the angle of attack criteria for blades.
