Driver Hand Control Reach
Driver hand control reach envelopes were developed using data acquired from test
subjects (including equal number of male and female driving population on the basis of stature and age) performing reach tasks in test fixtures simulating a range of actual vehicle configurations and were tested both with and without upper torso.
three-point restraint (a diagonal non-existing shoulder strap attached separately to the lap belt i.e. not a continuous loop). The hand reach envelopes are three-dimensional surfaces described in tabular form and can be referenced to a particular vehicle seating configuration according to procedures described. Only the 95% boundaries are presented in the tables. This module can be used at the initial stages of vehicle design. Considering the restraints on body movements, there can be two types of systems i.e
- Restrained System
- Unrestrained System
This module is intended to create the hand reach envelopes for both the above mentioned systems. These envelopes are three dimensional surfaces described in tabular format and can be referred to a particular vehicle seating configuration.
This module can be used for passenger cars, multi purpose passenger vehicles,
and medium trucks. These envelopes are directly applicable to motor vehicles for seated operators in full width or single width seats having fore and aft seat adjustment approximately horizontal.
